    How it works

One brief in. A whole book out, one chapter at a time.

Fill in six fields about the story you want. The desks research the genre, design the world and cast, outline the arcs and plan each volume. Every plan waits for your stamp before anyone builds on it.

    1. 1

      Story brief

Genre, premise, protagonist, ending, tone and length. AI suggestions help with every field.

    2. 2

      Research

Genre conventions, hooks and pacing norms, and where your book stands in the market.

    3. 3

      Foundation

Premise, world rules, power system, characters and a style bible.

    4. 4

      Plan

Arcs, volumes, foreshadowing with payoff windows, and a tension curve. Then chapter cards.

    5. 5

      Write

Every chapter runs the full loop below and lands in your release buffer.

    6. 6

      Release

Schedule, export for your platform, import reader numbers and replan the chapters not yet written.

    The chapter loop

Eleven steps per chapter. Five reviewers read every draft in parallel, and only the flagged passages are rewritten, so the rest of your prose stays untouched. A chapter that still has problems, or contradicts the story so far, waits for you.

    1. Load the chapter card
    2. Expand scene beats
    3. Assemble the story bible
    4. Draft the scenes
    5. Rule checks
    6. Five AI reviews
    7. Targeted revision
    8. Polish hooks and big moments
    9. Record what changed
    10. Summarize and index
    11. Queue for release

    Features

Built for books that run to hundreds of chapters.

    A story bible that remembers

Where every character is, what they know, how strong they are and who they trust, recorded as of each chapter. A dead character can't walk back in, and nobody skips a power tier.

    Five critics on every chapter

Continuity, character voice, pacing and hooks, prose, and content rules. Problems get fixed with targeted edits, not blind rewrites.

    Foreshadowing that pays off

Every thread has a payoff window. noval flags threads that go stale or overdue, and plans the chapters that resolve them.

You approve, or let it run

Press Start and watch the desks work. Plans wait for your stamp, or let the desk approve them for you. Chapters with problems always come back to you.

Use the AI you already have

Claude Code and Codex sign-ins work with no API key. Or add any OpenAI-format API, and send planning, drafting and reviews to different models.

    Private by design

noval runs on your computer. Your book and keys stay there; the only text that leaves is what you send to the AI provider you chose.

    Download

    Start writing in three steps.

    1. Install Python 3.9 or newer. From python.org. In the installer, tick “Add python.exe to PATH”.
    2. Download and unzip noval. Right-click the zip and choose Extract All.
    3. Double-click “Start noval”. noval opens in your browser. Keep the small window open while you write.

Then connect an AI: if Claude Code or Codex is signed in on your computer, noval finds it on its own. Otherwise paste an API key under AI providers.

    Questions

    Before you start

    What does it cost?

noval itself is a free download. The writing is done by the AI you connect: a Claude or ChatGPT subscription through their command-line tools, or an API account billed by its provider. A full chapter takes about 12 to 20 model calls.

Does my book get uploaded anywhere?

No. noval runs on your own computer and stores books in its folder. Only the text needed for each step goes to the AI provider you chose.

Which languages can it write in?

Any language your model writes well. Each book has its own writing language, and the app itself is available in six languages.

Do I have to accept what the AI writes?

No. You approve every plan, can edit any field or chapter by hand, and chapters with open problems wait for your decision.

Does it publish to my platform?

It exports chapters as plain text or Markdown for you to post, keeps a release schedule, and reads the numbers you import back from your platform.
